Frequently asked questions

How to prepare for class:

  • Drink water before you're in class - Half of your body weight in ounces in the day leading up to your first class is a good number to work with.

Bring a mat, towel, and bottle of water. If you don't have these, we have mats and towels for rental and water for purchase.

Arrive 10-15 minutes before class begins to get settled, meet the teacher, and begin class on time.

Wear light and breathable clothing - It will be hot and you want to be comfortable - shorts and a sports bra and/or tank top for women and shorts and a tank top for men.

  • Listen - The teacher will tell you what to do, how to do it, and the result of doing it. If you get lost, don't worry! We complete just about every posture in the class twice, so you always have a second go at it.

Take a break if you feel you need to - Sit down or lie down and join the class again when you feel ready.

  • Rest quietly on your mat - We call the time when you're laying on your mat after class Savasana or Dead Body Pose. It is suggested to be quiet and comfortable on your mat for 2-3 minutes after class. Maybe you'll even drift off into a nap!

Hydrate with more than just water - When you sweat, you lose electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Adding some sea salt and lemon to your water is a tasty way to balance your electrolytes and stay hydrated. We also like coconut water for after class. If you have a headache or feel some cramping during or after class, electrolytes will help.

Come back in 24-48 hours - You'll acclimate to the heat more quickly, learn the Bikram Yoga series, and realize the amazing benefits quickly!

  • For class you will need a yoga mat, a large yoga towel or large bath towel, water for during your class, and change of dry clothes to go home in. If you forget them, we have mats and towels for rental and water can be purchased.

  • Light clothes for class (it will be hot!) - shorts for men, shorts and a sports bra or tank top for women.

Why Bikram Yoga?

  • Bikram Yoga is a 90 minute series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises done in a specific order with specific instructions. Bikram Yoga is a healing practice meant to bring balance into your body and mind.

  • Weight loss, reduced stress, better endurance and more energy, improved immunity, a stronger heart, expanded lung capacity, relief of chronic pain, toned muscles, prevention and rehabilitation of injuries, detoxification, increased balance, strength and flexibility, increased willpower and mental strength.

  • Great! Bikram Yoga is a beginners series created for those with chronic pain and disease. Anyone can try Bikram yoga and experience benefits after their very first class.

  • Yoga changes the construction of the body from the inside out, from bones to skin and from fingertips to toes. So before you change it, you have to heat it up to soften it, because a warm body is a flexible body. Then you can reshape the body any way you want.

  • We recommend a practice of at least twice per week. If you are healing an injury it is often beneficial to practice more often (4 + times per week).
